Michigan Football: 4 Key recruiting battles Wolverines are likely to win
Four-star defensive tackle trending to Michigan
If there is one position that Michigan hasn’t addressed with a commitment yet in 2021, it’s defensive tackle and as we saw last season, the Wolverines could use some bigger bodies in the middle.
While a true nose tackle hasn’t really emerged, the Wolverines are in a good spot with four-star defensive tackle George Rooks out of New Jersey.
He’s a 6-foot-4, 260-pound tackle who ranks just outside the top 200, at least in the 247 sports composite rankings, although he’s actually No. 165 on Rivals, which has three predictions for Michigan, including from Holland.
Rooks may not be the plug in the middle Mazi Smith has the potential to be. He’s more of a three-technique or even a defensive end in a 3-4 front.
But it’s still a vital position and it’s a spot that the Wolverines need to address. There also aren’t a ton of other targets there either. Rayshaun Berry is one and he’s from Oak Park, Michigan, so he could be an alternative or a second defensive tackle, because unless something changes drastically, Rooks will be a Wolverine too.
