The starting five

You have to think that if Andrew Stueber is ready to go, he’s going to get the nod at left tackle opposite Mayfield, or is he?

Will he start anywhere? Yes, at either guard spot, but most likely at right guard next to Jalen, which is precisely the direction where every third and short play will be called.

Moving onto center, there are Andrew Vastardis and sophomore Zach Carpenter, who are ideal for the position. Zach is an intriguing candidate for the spot as he was criminally underrated in high school as he never breached the top 550 football players for the 2019 class. As to Andrew, he’s a veteran that won’t really fit elsewhere, but under coach Warriner’s tutelage, he can succeed in the interior.

As to the other guard position, Chuck Filiaga is leading the pack. Way back in 2017, Chuck was a highly touted recruit with four-stars and a .9475 composite rating. Internally, 274 sports listed Filiaga within the top 100 for his class and a top 15 tackle.

Another possibility for the guard position, and Chuck’s main competitor, is Karsen Barnhart, who hails from a small town outside of Kalamazoo. Karsen is moving into his sophomore year, and at 6-foot-4 and 301-pounds, he certainly has the size requirement nailed down.
