Michigan Football: Junior Colson commitment day, another top list for UM
Michigan football is expected to land the commitment of four-star linebacker Junior Colson Sunday. Here’s the latest on that and more on recruiting.
Sunday should be a good day for the Michigan football program as the Wolverines are expected to land what would be their top defensive commitment so far of the 2021 class.
Four-star linebacker Junior Colson, who is ranked 116th overall according to the 247 sports composite rankings and 83rd overall according to Rivals, is making his college decision at 3 PM central time and all the experts believe he will choose Michigan.
The Wolverines own all of his crystal ball projections on 247 sports and while there have only been five crystal ball selections overall, they have each been given a high level of confidence. 247 sports is now rating the confidence of picks on a scale of 1-10 and each pick for the Wolverines is rated at an eight or higher while no other school has any predictions in their favor.
In addition to being ranked well nationally, 247 sports has Colson ranked as the No. 8 outside linebacker in 2021. Rivals has him listed even higher at No. 3. Here’s his scouting report from Barton Simmons of 247 sports:
"Formerly slender, athletic linebacker with length that has already begun the process to add mass to support an in-the-box role on the next level. Extremely productive on a one of the best teams in Tennessee. Sure tackler but not ferocious. Nothing jarring about point of attack physicality. More equipped to be an uncovered run and chase defender than a downhill box defender but is starting to evolve in that regard. Has flashed pass rush ability as a blitzer. Athletic traits and physical development points to an eventual Power Five impact starter with the potential to be a mid-to-late round NFL Draft talent."
Since both Rivals and 247 sports are 100 percent projecting Colson, it appears likely he will choose the Wolverines, although we all know surprises can happen.
Michigan football makes top-4 for 4-star
Saturday was a pretty slow day in terms of recruiting for Michigan football, but there was one thing of note as four-star athlete Will Latu released his top-four list, which included the Wolverines.
Latu is a 6-foot-2, 221-pound athlete out of Washington. Utah, Washington and USC were the other schools the crack the top four, but the Huskies appear to be the favorite and own both of his crystal ball projections at this point.
He’s ranked No. 273 overall in the 2021 rankings and would likely be a linebacker or possibly a safety if he chose the Wolverines.
