Michigan football target Junior Colson will commit this Sunday and that looks to be good news for the Wolverines.

During this COVID-19 pandemic, the Michigan football program has been really aggressive with its recruiting approach and it appears to be working as the Wolverines are closing in on another key commitment.

This time, it’s from four-star linebacker Junior Colson, a top-200 player out of the state of Tennessee. According to the 247 sports composite rankings, Colson is the No. 10 outside linebacker and the 128th player overall.

Colson is listed at 6-foot-2, 228 pounds and he’s a guy who can do multiple things really well. Here is his scouting report via Barton Simmons, a recruiting analyst for 247 sports who has projected the linebacker to Michigan football:

"“Former wide receiver that brings that kind of athleticism to the linebacker position. Loose hips and a natural in coverage. Good ball skills. Attractive as a nickel linebacker. Comfortable operating in space as a perimeter tackler. Good athlete that checks the combine testing box. Extremely productive on a one of the best teams in Tennessee. Sure tackler but not ferocious. Nothing jarring about point of attack physicality. More equipped to be an uncovered run and chase defender than a downhill box defender. Has flashed pass rush ability as a blitzer.”"

In the last two seasons, Colson has registered 209 total tackles, 36 tackles for loss and 16 sacks, including 14 last season, drawing apt comparisons to former Wolverine Josh Uche, who just got drafted in round two of the NFL draft.

The one thing you takeaway from watching Colson on film is that he’s explosive. He darts into the backfield and in some ways, he would make sense as a Viper. He’s a better blitzing than as a pass rusher, but he can develop those skills and his coverage skills are solid too.

It’s rare for a kid to have his coverage ability, and the ability to pressure the quarterback. Colson made the announcement on Twitter that he would be committing Sunday and soon after a flood of crystal balls came in.

Colson now has four recruiting experts projecting him to Michigan, including Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider ($). Tennessee has been making a push and LSU is also in the running as well as Ole Miss and Oregon but an earlier commitment date seemed like a good thing for the Wolverines and Sunday, we will find out if that’s true.
