Can Brown play right away?

The answer here seems to be no, although nothing is known for sure at this point. Brown can request a waiver and he might be able to get one if Wake Forest approves it or if all players are given immediate eligibility.

Here’s some insight from UMHoops ($) asking a reporter that used to cover Brown with Wake Forest:

"“Honestly, I don’t. He entered the transfer portal before the coaching change, so I don’t expect that to play a factor. He doesn’t have family in Michigan that I’m aware of. I wouldn’t rule out the factor of him graduating at the end of the summer. But it’s difficult to graduate from college in three years – it’s another level of difficult to do so at a place like Wake Forest.”"

With only Brandon Johns and Adrien Nunez expected to be on the roster as upperclassmen in 2021-22, adding a transfer that season with starting experience wouldn’t be a bad thing, which is why both Brown and Eastern would be good fits next season or after that.

Yet, unless Livers decides to stay in the draft, it would be better for Michigan basketball if he sat a year to play a year. The Wolverines would be losing Livers and most likely Franz Wagner, two starters and two of their best 3-point shooters. Having Brown could give Howard one ready-made replacement who has a history of success in Power-5 basketball.
