Michigan basketball landed a third commitment from a transfer this offseason as former Wake Forest guard Chaundee Brown joined the Wolverines.

When former Wake Forest player Chaundee Brown revised his top list to include Michigan basketball, that was a good hint that the Wolverines were in a good position.

Brown had a virtual visit with Michigan basketball coach Juwan Howard, which went well and now, after making his commitment official Tuesday, Brown will play for the Wolverines.

The question is when?

Brown is leaving a program that lost its head coach. Danny Manning was recently fired as head coach of the Demon Deacons. Yet, Brown had already put his name in the transfer portal, which would seem to hurt his chances of getting a waiver.

That now makes two players, both Brown and fellow transfer Nojel Eastern, who will also be looking for a waiver. Both players played three years at Wake Forest and Purdue, respectively, and it’s always possible one could graduate and qualify to play then, but that’s far from a sure thing.

Adding Brown and Eastern, along with Mike Smith, who transferred from Columbia, effectively replaces David DeJulius, Colin Castleton and Cole Bajema, who each left Michigan via the transfer portal.

The other question that remains about next season is Isaiah Livers and whether or not he will stay in the NBA draft or return to the Wolverines. But whether Brown plays this season or next, he should have a solid impact and here are three takeaways from his commitment.
