If Michigan lands Brown, when will he play?

Brown played three seasons with Wake Forest and whether he plays next season or the year after that, he will only be able to play one year for Michigan basketball.

While the Wolverines could use an extra wing if Livers stays in the NBA draft, if not, it might be better served to have Brown eligible to play for the 2021-22 season when the Wolverines could be in desperate need of some veteran help.

If Franz Wagner leaves for the NBA after his sophomore season as many predict, Michigan could be left with just Dickinson, Howard, Jackson, Williams and Brandon Johns on scholarship. Bajema would have pushed that number to six, so it wouldn’t be bad to have a versatile forward, with the ability to start right away after making 73 starts in the ACC.

Brown could possibly be eligible next season if he applies for a waiver and it got approved. That’s always a dicey process but it could be approved and that could be made more urgent if Livers doesn’t return. Brown could be a potential starter at the three of the four if Johns wasn’t ready.

Even if Brown isn’t a starter, he makes a lot of sense. Being able to play the three and the four will get him plenty of minutes, especially with his ability to finish, as well as space the floor and rebound. He may not be needed as much next year, but Brown will be a solid piece whenever he plays, if Howard is able to secure his commitment.
