Michigan Football poised to add another commitment Sunday
Michigan football landed a commitment on Saturday from three-star linebacker Tyler McLaurin, but the Wolverines aren’t done and should add another player Sunday.
It was pretty clear that Michigan football was going to be on commitment watch coming into the weekend. First, there was Tyler McLaurin, who made his decision Saturday and then, it came out that three-star safety Rod Moore out of Ohio was also going to make a decision this weekend.
Moore put out on social media that he would make his announcement on Mother’s Day and while Michigan football already seemed in a really good position with him, it was confirmed even more with a flood of crystal ball projections from 247 sports’ recruiting experts.
Moore is ranked 378th overall according to the 247 sports composite rankings and he’s listed as the No. 22 safety as well as the 12th-best player out of the state of Ohio. Like McLaurin, who is ranked just outside the top 400, Moore is a high-ranking three-star with a chance to move up.
While the addition of Moore isn’t official yet, it will be significant if that’s the choice because he will overtake McLaurin as the top-ranked commit on the defensive side of the ball in the 2021 class, although with Michigan in strong position with a slew of four-star defenders, that should change.
But again, Moore isn’t just the typical three-star recruit and I believe this is another really good find by Michigan. Here’s his evaluation from Allen Trieu of 247 sports:
"Build wise, Moore is right at the average for safeties height-wise. He has some length but needs to add weight in college. He is a true playmaker who has very good ball skills and the anticipation to put himself in position to use those ball skills. He will also get involved as a tackler. He takes good angles in pursuit and gets around the field fluidly and easily. His track times are solid, 22.17 in the 200m, 7.12 in the 60m dash."
There is plenty to like about Moore and the fact he has legit speed is one thing. Another is that the dude is just a ballhawk. Last season, he finished with 85 tackles, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and four interceptions.
That’s being involved in nine turnover plays and those are the kinds of plays that change games. Moore comes from the same high school as a recent wide receiver commit Markus Allen and if he does end up choosing Michigan, he will be the 13th commit overall in 2021.
People roll their eyes about three-star prospects all the time, but Michigan does a solid job scouting and developing these guys. Moore is another example of that, although he had plenty of offers including from Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Indiana and more.
Obviously, Ohio State didn’t offer but hopefully, that ends up being something the Buckeyes regret.
