Michigan Basketball makes top-10 for one 5-star, offers another
Michigan basketball is pushing ahead with its 2021 recruiting and on Saturday, the Wolverines offered another 5-star and made the top list for another.
It’s been a crazy month or so for the Michigan basketball program. With three transfers, the Wolverines are now facing the prospect of an enormous 2021 recruiting class.
Depending on transfers and things like that, Juwan Howard could have as many as eight scholarships to give out in this next recruiting class and while it’s hard to see that actually happening, six or seven is certainly possible.
And despite getting burned by five-star recruits Josh Christopher and Isaiah Todd, Howard is pushing ahead with elite recruits and extended another offer to 2021 five-star Harrison Ingram Saturday.
Ingram has been on Michigan’s radar for more than a year and was actually first contacted by John Beilein’s staff. Then, things went a little quiet after Howard took over but after reporting he met with the staff, assuming over video chat, Ingram posted the offer on Twitter.
According to Dylan Burkhardt of UMHoops, Ingram is set to put out of a top-10 list this week, so it will be really interesting to see if Michigan basketball cracks it. The 6-foot-6 wing is ranked 20th overall according to the 247 sports composite rankings in 2021 and he’s the No. 6 small forward.
As of right now, Stanford holds both of his crystal ball projections, which both came back in January. Texas Tech, North Carolina, Arkansas and Memphis are some schools that are pushing for him. Michigan has hosted him on campus back in 2019 but now if the Wolverines make his top 10, they will need to try and secure an official visit to give themselves a shot.
When it comes to another five-star recruit in 2021, Michigan basketball is still in the mix, at least according to Patrick Baldwin‘s top-10 list, which was released Saturday and featured the Wolverines. This is from Jake Weingarten as Stockrisers.
Baldwin is the third-ranked player in the 2021 class and he’s widely expected to go play for Coach K and the Duke Blue Devils. They own all six of his crystal ball projections. It will be interesting to see if Michigan hangs around in the mix, but if there isn’t a realistic hope of landing him, time would be better spent elsewhere.
The Wolverines could certainly use a five-star caliber player, but at they very least, they need a couple of top-50 guys. Baldwin doesn’t seem like a possibility, Ingram, however, could be.
