Michigan Football: Josh Gattis makes 2022 WR Tyler Morris a priority
Josh Gattis and Michigan football have their sights set on 2022 wideout Tyler Morris, who is the top player out of Illinois.
In the last few recruiting cycles, Michigan football has had a ton of success in the state of Illinois, including landing some the top players in 2020 and 2021.
A.J. Henning, a four-star wide receiver was the No. 2 player in the state in 2020 and he signed with Michigan football. He should also have a chance to make an impact right away for the Wolverines next season.
J.J. McCarthy, one of the players in the 2021 class and the No. 1 player in Illinois has been committed for about a year and now, the Wolverines are aiming to add 2022 wideout Tyler Morris to the list.
Morris is a 6-foot, 175-pound receiver with a boatload of offers including one from Michigan football which came about a year ago. The connection is that Morris plays with McCarthy, so Michigan has an in there, but offensive coordinator Josh Gattis has also been making a serious push with Morris.
"“Yeah, I’ve been talking to Gattis weekly and had a FaceTime with him, Coach Harbaugh, and Coach Moore a couple weeks ago,” Morris told The Michigan Insider ($). “It was really good. We just talked about what’s going on right now and how I’m dealing with everything as far as school and working out.”"
Morris is ranked as one of the top players in the entire 2022 class, coming in 56th overall, while being the No. 9 wide receiver. His dynamic ability seems like an ideal fit for any offense, let alone what Gattis is trying to instill with the Wolverines.
But getting Morris won’t be easy. Notre Dame looks like it will offer some strong competition and already, the Fighting Irish have two crystal ball projections, although those were both from back in 2019. Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota and Nebraska are some other schools in the Big Ten that are in the mix.
Gattis has proven to be a strong recruiter for the Wolverines but landing Morris will be a big test. Michigan has added some solid receiving talent in the past few cycles, but more top-100 guys like Henning are needed and Morris offers a great opportunity.
