Michigan will reach double-digit wins

In order to beat Ohio State, Michigan is going to have to find a quarterback who can go toe-to-toe with Justin Fields. Maybe McCaffrey or Milton will emerge as that guy next season and if so, beating Ohio State will be totally possible.

But it seems like it’s going to be another somewhat frustrating season at quarterback. If Michigan ends up using both or flipping back and forth, it will be less than ideal. Yet, with all the talent surrounding the quarterbacks, Michigan should still be able to win 9-10 regular-season games.

The opening game at Washington will be critical in terms of winning 10 in the regular season. Following that game, as well as home games against Ball State and Arkansas State, the Wolverines have a brutal four-game stretch.

First, Michigan will host Wisconsin and Penn State in back-to-back weeks, before taking back-to-back road trips to Michigan State and Minnesota. If the Wolverines get through that stretch unscathed, they will head into Columbus unbeaten in the Big Ten, as they did in 2018.

More likely though, Michigan will lose one of those two road games. Michigan State won’t be easy with a new head coach, but the Wolverines should squeeze out a win but will fall at Minnesota.

If U-M beats Washington in the opener, it will head to Columbus 10-1, otherwise 9-2. It will be another Big-Ten East title game that Michigan football will fail to win. A 10-2 regular season would mean a New Year’s Six Bowl, and a very tough game to win or a 9-3 season could lead to the Outback Bowl or something like it and a much more winnable game.

Essentially, one way or another, I expect Michigan football to finish 10-3 next season and we’ll see if a fourth 10-win season in six years will be enough to satisfy the Wolverines’ rabid fanbase.
