Michigan Football: Top 5 NFL Draft prospects for Wolverines in 2021
By Ryan Kraus
Ambry Thomas
Ambry Thomas, like Nick Eubanks, had a decision to make after the 2019 season. Go pro, or come back one more year and put more tape together for the NFL coaches and general managers. Thomas decided to come back.
Entering his senior season, Thomas will have already appeared in 34 games for the Wolverines. Along with playing corner, Ambry showed that he can be an asset in the return game too. He had a touchdown on a kick return against Notre Dame.
Thomas has shown for three years that he has the makings of an NFL cornerback. He has great man to man coverage skills, speed, and the ability to make a play on the ball.
Man to man coverage is a staple of Don Brown’s defense and Thomas has shown that he can be a lockdown corner. Speed has never been a problem. Ambry showed his ball skills last season collecting three interceptions bringing his career total to four.
The one negative that may come up for Ambry is the lack of tape showing his skills in coverage’s besides man. Don Brown started to mix in some zone coverage at the end of last season but time will tell if that carries over into 2020.
With a solid senior season, where he continues to show off his skills as a cover corner, Ambry Thomas will make an NFL team very happy.
