Michigan missing the elite QB

One name you didn’t hear Saturday for Michigan football was Shea Patterson, which served as another reminder of where the Wolverines are coming up short.

Think about LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma and Ohio State. These are all teams that have really good college quarterbacks or guys who have been drafted early. Trevor Lawrence is probably going to be the No. 1 pick next year and it’s starting to look like you need that kind of player to win the College Football Playoff or at least get there.

Michigan just hasn’t had someone who can compare to a player like Justin Fields or Jalen Hurts or Joe Burrows. I expected Patterson to be a draft pick at the start of the year and honestly, I thought he would play well enough to get picked somewhere in rounds 3-5.

But he never lived up to the billing and while it wouldn’t shock me if he sticks in the league as a backup for a while, it’s clear the Wolverines have to starting getting better at QB if they want to be among the elite.
