With the 77th overall pick…

The New England Patriots select Chase Winovich, the University of Michigan.

The fan-favorite; the wild man; the underdog.

In college, Chase’s overall portfolio is what really distinguished him from others in the draft. He didn’t begin his career as a defensive end – the position he played for three years at Michigan. Chase was a linebacker and a tight end, but like Gentry, he made the switch. A switch that ended with him in the NFL with third-round money.

According to U-M’s website, Winovich had 185 tackles, 18 sacks, and 3 fumbles forced.

In the NFL, in his one season alongside Michigan legend Tom Brady, Chase is already making a name for himself. Making an appearance in all 16 games, Winovich was attributed 26 tackles and 5.5 sacks.

With the 79th overall pick…

The Los Angeles Rams select David Long, the University of Michigan.

The All-Big Ten defensive back was integral in establishing a no-fly zone in Ann Arbor for the two years he dawned the maize and blue uniform on the field. While David only came down with there interceptions, he was the fourth highest-ranked recruit for Michigan’s 2016 class. The class included Rashan Gary, Ben Bredeson, Michael Onwenu, and Lavert Hill, to name a few.

Since the draft, Long was able to find some playing time for himself in eight games this past season, accounting for a combined nine tackles.
