With the 141st overall pick…

The Pittsburg Steelers select Zach Gentry, the University of Michigan.

Standing at 6-foot-8, Zach Gentry had the size that makes college coaches drool. He was thin but huge and a highly coveted quarterback. Zach was ranked 174th overall, the eighth-best pro-style QB, and the top-ranked athlete from New Mexico.

Michigan wasn’t in need of another QB. They needed a reliable pass catcher. Gentry stepped up and stepped into the role of tight end where he excelled. Three-time letterman, two-time All Big-Ten Honoree, and the recipient of the team’s 2017 Most Improved Offensive Player award.

Spending two years as an end,  Gentry amassed am impressive 817 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

At the NFL combine, Zach didn’t perform up to par, posting a 4.90 forty and only 12 repetitions on the bench. Because of that, his prospect grade dropped to a 5.40, which is in the priority free agent category.

Gentry was discounted as undraftable.

The Steelers knew differently. And with their fifth-round selection, Pittsburgh got their TE of the future.

Zach hasn’t quite burst onto the NFL scene, yet. He’s still working his way up the ranks in his bid for the starting job. As long as he keeps working hard, Gentry is athletic enough the excel at and level.
