Zeb shouldn’t be counted out at PG

The one 2020 recruit who signed with Michigan basketball back in November was four-star guard Zeb Jackson and the No. 69 player in the 2020 class shouldn’t be forgotten. Not at all.

While it looked like Eli Brooks could be the starting point guard next season, had Christopher committed, with him out of the picture, things look entirely different.

Now, it looks like Brooks will keep his starting job at the two and the point guard battle will come down to graduate transfer Mike Smith and Jackson, an incoming freshman who stands 6-foot-2, instead of 5-foot-11 as Smith does.

Smith has a lot of talent. He scored more than 22 a game last season for Columbia. However, Jackson was thought to be the point guard of the future and that be more true now than ever. Jackson shoots the ball well and was Monteverde’s best 3-point shooter percentage wise.

Jackson knows how to score with the ball in his hands. He’s a stellar shooter off the dribble and he’s effective in the ball screen. He also has the size and athleticism to defend Big Ten guards that Smith may not.

At the end of the day, I think Smith will win the starting job, but I still see Zeb playing 15-20 minutes next season and paving the way to be the starting point guard in 2021-22.
