Michigan Basketball: 3 takeaways from Josh Christopher choosing ASU
Taking a look at the scholarship situation
Michigan basketball fans have obsessed over the Wolverines’ scholarship situation recently, wondering how Todd and Christopher could possibly fit, as well as a possible graduate transfer.
Well, after losing both DeJulius and Colin Castleton to the transfer portal, as well as Jace Howard being announced as a walk-on, plus Christopher going to Arizona State, U-M has at least one open spot for next season.
Assuming Livers, Wagner and Todd are all in Ann Arbor next season, Michigan basketball will still have a scholarship to offer. The first thought is that this scholarship could go to Jace Howard, a 6-foot-7 prospect that’s a legit three-star with some ability. Brandon Wade could be another option.
Naturally, fans will be attracted to the transfer market but is there anyone in the transfer portal that should play over Brooks or even Bajema? I’d take Bajema’s ability over just about anyone else you can find. He can shoot, play out of the pick-and-roll and has a year of college under his belt.
Actually, a big like Castleton, one that can defend the post is just as big a need as a two-guard. The truth is many teams wish they could choose from Brooks, Wagner and Bajema at the two, so Michigan fans shouldn’t feel too sorry for themselves.
With Wagner, Livers, Todd and Dickinson in toe, this team has plenty of next-level talent and plenty of 3-point shooting to surround its stars. The issue might be defense and since that was Howard’s specialty in Miami, he will have to put that knowledge to good use in 2020-21.
