Michigan Basketball: 3 takeaways from Josh Christopher choosing ASU
Michigan basketball was spurned by five-star guard Josh Christopher, who chose Arizona State. Here are three takeaways and a look at the fallout.
Not every Michigan basketball fan stayed up late enough to hear the news, but it would soon reach them that five-star guard Joshua Christopher had indeed chosen Arizona State.
While Christopher playing with his brother at Arizona State was always a possibility, everyone seemed sure, at least until the final days, that the top-10 talent was joining Michigan basketball.
Of course, when you are talking about recruiting, you are talking about 18-year-old kids, who often change their minds. And in this case, who knows if Christopher was ever the solid Michigan lean people thought he was.
It’s not time to blame prognosticators who got it wrong, it’s time to look ahead and there are still plenty of positives for Michigan heading into next season.
For starters, even without Christopher, Michigan basketball boasts the No. 4 recruiting class in 2020 according to 247 sports and as long as Isaiah Todd signs, the Wolverines are still bringing in four top-100 recruits and essentially, two in the top 32.
If you add that alongside Franz Wagner and Isaiah Livers, plus Eli Brooks, Mike Smith, Brandon Johns and Austin Davis, it’s a solid team.
Christopher might have been the difference between good and great but that’s a moot point now. He’s not coming and honestly, I don’t think any new 2020 recruits or transfers are either.
But it’s way too early to lose hope and I’ll tell you in why in these three takeaways.
