No. 5 2018 @ Northwestern

There are so many games that could be in the No. 5 spot but this game was very important to the 2018 season and therefore it claims this spot. Michigan football already had one loss on the season and didn’t want to have another loss, in conference, so early in the schedule.

By the second quarter, Michigan was behind 17-0 on the road. This brought flashbacks to the opening game of the season against Notre Dame when the Wolverines got behind early and tried to mount a comeback.

The Wolverines had to play perfect the rest of the way and wake up their offense.

Karan Higdon got the scoring started on a four-yard TD run in the second quarter. Michigan would go into the half down 17-7, within striking distance even with lifeless offense. The way the game was going it seemed if Northwestern scored one more time, Michigan would come up short.

The defense kept the Wildcats offense off the scoreboard going into the fourth quarter. A Higdon touchdown with just over four minutes remaining in the game gave the Wolverines the lead. They needed to make one more defensive stand. Insert Josh Uche on the final play of the game.

This win gave the Wolverines momentum heading into the meat of their schedule. They would go on to start the Revenge Tour two weeks later against Wisconsin. Those games were flashy and fun but this game was integral to their success in 2018.
