Michigan Football: 5 Wolverine recruits added since Spring
The pin-you-deep punter
Special teams sometimes don’t get the attention it deserves. People often make the joke kickers should only speak when spoken to. Those people are the same ones that lose in the fourth quarter because they weren’t willing to spend a scholarship on a decent kicker or punter.
Michigan isn’t going to make that mistake.
While the mainstream recruiting sites don’t have any intel on kicker/punter Tommy Doman, who committed to UM a few days ago, special teams guys have their own ratings, rankings, and websites. Kohls professional Camps ranks Doman as a five-star and provided this evaluation:
"Doman has attended multiple Kohl’s events with the most recent being in January of 2020. He is a long athletic prospect. His punting consistency might be the best in the country. Doman has great hands and is more technically polished than anyone else in the 2020 class. He makes field goals look easy and won the kickoff competition at the Underclassman Challenge. Doman is currently the best overall combo K/P in the 2020 class and is a D1 scholarship player."
Kohls has Tommy as the third overall kicker and the fourth overall punter.
Chris Sailer also specializes in special teams and believes Doman is a five-star as well. In addition to the rating, Sailer supplied a rave review:
"Tommy is a big time punting and kicking prospect. He is an incredible athlete with off the charts all around college potential. Tommy has an ideal frame for a D1 Punter. He has a pure swing and punts for a great combination of distance and hang time. He averages 45+ yards with 4.5+ hang time. Tommy reminds me a lot of former #1 Chris Sailer Kicking punter J.K. Scott (Alabama, Packers). He is also an excellent kicker. He is smooth and accurate off the ground. He gets the ball up well and easily has 55+ yard range. His kickoffs are D1 ready. Tommy drives the ball into the end zone with solid hang time. Tommy is currently the #1 Combo Prospect in the nation. He is a fine young man that is a pleasure to work with. The All-American Bowl on NBC Punter and TOP 12 Camp Invitee is the absolute real deal. OFFER NOW!!! Huge pick up for Michigan."
Tommy’s journey to his commitment is different than the typical athlete who ponders for months and even years before taking the leap.
Tommy maintains several offers, but they weren’t from the school he wanted. Many coaches reached out to him and offered a scholarship without ever meeting in person. They weren’t from the university or the coach that Tommy wanted to hear from, however.
Doman plays for one of the best catholic high schools in Michigan, a school 45 minutes northeast of Ann Arbor, and when Jim Harbaugh contacted the talented specialist and offered a scholarship, Tommy accepted on the spot.
