Michigan Basketball: Wolverines make first 2021 bracketology projection
Michigan basketball should be one of the better teams in the Big Ten next season and here is where the Wolverines are projected in 2021 bracketology.
Most people expect the Michigan basketball team to be pretty solid next season, regardless of how things shake out with recruiting or the NBA draft process.
And one person that clearly agrees with that assessment is ESPN college basketball expert Joe Lunardi or “Joey Brackets” as he is sometimes called. Well, with nothing else going on, he released his first bracket projection for 2021 and Michigan basketball easily made the field of 68.
Of course, the national championship game was supposed to be tonight, so the projection comes a couple of days earlier than normal, but the Wolverines were one of 10 Big Ten teams to make it and Michigan basketball was projected as a five seed.

Just like many other programs, the Wolverines are trying to finalize their roster for next season, which won’t happen for a couple of months. The first key questions are whether key recruits such as Isaiah Todd and Joshua Christopher will be part of the team?
Todd has been committed for months but didn’t sign in the early period and can sign again starting April 15. Christopher has been predicted to the Wolverines but he hasn’t committed yet and until kids sign their letter of intent, you can never be sure.
Michigan also has to figure out if it will have Isaiah Livers or Franz Wagner. Livers already declared for the 2020 NBA draft but said that he would return to the Wolverines if he didn’t think he would get a guaranteed contract.
Wagner hasn’t said anything about the NBA yet, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if he decided to declare too. It doesn’t hurt players to get an evaluation and see where they stand with NBA scouts.
But depending on how all that shakes out, Michigan could be among the most talented teams in the country heading into next season. If Todd and Christopher join, plus Wagner or Livers return, Michigan should be a contender for the Big Ten title and maybe more.
So while my initial reaction was that it was maybe a little low as a projection, there are still a lot of unknowns, not just with Michigan, but across college hoops.
