Michigan Football: Top 5 Wolverines to be with during quarantine
Wood
Simply put, there is no player in the history of Michigan football who has meant or done more than Charles Woodson.
He won the Heisman Trophy back in 1997, which was also the last time that Michigan won the national championship. Woodson remains the only player who played mostly on the defensive side of the ball to win the award. He picked off seven passes that season, including one against Michigan State, one against Ohio State in the game that clinched the Big Ten title and also in the Rose Bowl, when Michigan trailed 7-0 early and could have gotten down by two scores.
He also returned a punt for a touchdown against Ohio State is what may be the most historic play in Michigan football history. That 1997 season, he hauled in 11 passes for 231 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for a touchdown and scored on said punt return. He finished his U-M career with 18 interceptions.
Then, Woodson became a First-Team All-Pro selection three times, while also being selected for the Pro Bowl seven times.
The Wolverine alum won a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers, was Defensive Player of the Year and finished with 65 career interceptions, 33 forced fumbles, 183 passes breakups, 18 fumble recoveries and 20 sacks. Woodson also has 1,220 sacks and 54 tackles for loss, as well as 13 non-offensive touchdowns, 11 of which came via interception, which ranks second all time.
For all those reasons, Woodson would be a great person to be quarantined with. He could re-live the glory days as Michigan football, beating Ohio State, which he did three times, with a perfect record as 3-0.
Woodson has literally done it all, with the Wolverines and in the NFL. He’s a sure-fire hall-of-famer and he’s brilliant. So yes, he’s an easy person to include on this list. In fact, he’s probably No. 1.
