Michigan football might not have a 2020 season due to the coronavirus, or maybe the NCAA could implement some sort of alternate or shortened season. Here the options are discussed and you can read what the coaches and athletic directors are saying.

It’s not difficult to pinpoint what started all of this. This being the closure of all major events, the mass closure of businesses, and abrupt shelter in place orders.

The world altered by a virus; infecting the lungs to a degree that, in severe cases, requires intubation and a breathing machine to keep the patient alive. Most of us can catch it with no or few symptoms, but other facets of society (the elderly, and those with underlying health conditions) aren’t so lucky.

People are, mostly, doing the right thing by listening and adhering to the increased security measures around the world: not congregating in large groups, not making unnecessary trips to the store, etc., etc.

Whether a person is infected or not, everyone has been impacted, either directly or indirectly, by this global pandemic. For some, their life, outside of their day job, revolves around video games or knitting or book clubs or whatever other activity that reduces stress and anxiety. For me and many others, that activity is sports.

Football, basketball, hockey, soccer, cross county; competition on any level.

We, the sports junkies, crave the weekend MMA battles, the daily obscure college basketball game, and even dodgeball and putt-putt on ESPN 8 The Ocho.

The coronavirus has canceled our fix; our daily routine of finding and watching live competition on television.

At this point, no one really knows how long this hiatus from sports will last. We know winter sports will have to wait a year to crown a champion. The NCAA has already granted an extra year of eligibility for those involved in summer programs. But what about fall? Will Michigan football play this year?

Here are some possibilities based on available information and what coaches and athletic directors are saying.
