Michigan football essentially was able to flip four-star offensive lineman Greg Crippen from Notre Dame and now the Wolverines are after another ND commit.

It sounds like Michigan football has adapted to Facetime visits pretty well and according to reports, the Wolverines were using that technology to communicate with a Notre Dame commit this week.

According to The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich ($), Michigan football made contact with dynamic wide receiver Lorenzo Styles Jr., who committed to the Fighting Irish back in October.

“Yes, I talked to them,” Styles told Marich. “Got on FaceTime with coach Harbaugh and coach Gattis on Monday.”

Joining head coach Jim Harbaugh on the call was offensive coordinator Josh Gattis, who obviously would have a lot of say over how Styles Jr. is used with the Wolverines. The 6-foot-1 wideout weighs 170 pounds and ranks 115th overall in the 2021 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings, as well as 18th at wide receiver and sixth in the state of Ohio.

Styles said that Michigan football was still hoping to build a relationship with him, especially if he re-opened his recruitment. However, trying to land the Ohio wideout isn’t going to be easy, even if he leaves the Notre Dame.

The second team in terms of crystal ball predictions is Ohio State and if the recruitment was open again, it seems like the Buckeyes might be interested in one of the top pass catchers in their home state.

Yet, Michigan does have things it can sell too. U-M has an exciting new offensive system and could offer a better chance to play early. Five-star quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who has been committed since last May could be another selling point.

In other recruiting news, Michigan is also in a battle with Notre Dame for four-star offensive lineman Rocco Spindler. And again, Marich offers some insight as he reports that the whole staff will participate in a call with Spindler this week ($).

Spindler is a top-50 prospect and one of the best offensive line prospects in the country. As a result, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State and others are hot after his services.

Michigan owns 75 percent of his crystal ball predictions, so the Wolverines could be considered a slight favorite right now, which is why it’s good to see the coaches putting in some face time, literally, in order to keep it that way.
