Brooks makes sense to start

Point guard is going to be one of the more interesting positions for Michigan basketball to figure out next season. There are potential candidates on the roster right now in Eli Brooks and David DeJulius, as long as each is on the team next year, along with incoming freshman Zeb Jackson and possibly even Joshua Christopher.

Christopher is more of a two-guard. He’s a scorer, however, he has averaged more than four assists as a high school player and it’s possible he could run the point at times if need be. DeJulius is another strong candidate, but as long as Brooks doesn’t transfer, he has a good shot to start the season opener at the point.

As he showed during the game that Zavier Simpson was out, Brooks can run the point. He shoots the ball well enough, he’s a very good defensive player and he’s a glue guy that just makes good things happen on both ends of the floor.

If Christopher and Todd come to Ann Arbor, and some others stay, Michigan basketball could be as talented as any team in the country. But you don’t win championships without at least a few quality veterans and that’s where Brooks comes in. As the season goes on, maybe he will move to  bench, yet expect him to play a key role either way.
