Joe Milton

Milton is an obvious answer for someone who missed out on spring practices. The redshirt sophomore is gunning for the starting quarterback job, but missing out weeks of competition with Dylan McCaffrey isn’t going to help him.

The one thing that McCaffrey has going for him is the experience factor. He seems to know the system a little better and just from what coaches have said, it seems like he has their trust in the playbook a little more.

Of course, three weeks of spring football could have helped. It also could have given Milton a chance to show the coaching staff how much he has developed during the offseason and also demonstrated his knowledge of the offense.

At this point, it’s hard to get a read on what the coaches are thinking when it comes to the quarterback position. Milton has the huge arm and all the upside, but McCaffery was pretty highly-touted coming out of high school and for the most part, he has played well when given an opportunity.  But now, without spring, the evaluation of Milton and McCaffrey got a lot more difficult.
