Loaded defensive backfield

When it comes to the secondary, Michigan football is pretty talented. Daxton Hill started to emerge at the end of the year and Ambry Thomas is another guy that’s going to play in the NFL someday.

With Hill and Brad Hawkins, Michigan is set at safety. The drama in the secondary is going to be more at the corner positions. Thomas has one spot locked down. He was arguably the Wolverines best cover corner last season and his speed is a real asset.

Opposite him could be Vincent Gray, who was a steady performer last season in a sub-package role. Thomas finished with three interceptions, but Gray, a long corner, actually had more pass breakups with five.

But, Gray will be challenged for playing time by DJ Turner, Gemon Green, Jalen Perry and incoming freshman Andre Seldon, who will take part in spring practices and could be an ideal slot corner.

Seldon isn’t big, but he’s dynamic and it’s very possible that he works his way into the nickel job as a freshman. How he performs in the spring will be crucial and he’s one freshman that could easily make an early impact for the Wolverines next season.
