Who’s the next VIPER?

For the past three years, Khaleke Hudson has been the starting Viper and he has done a pretty good job. Now, that position is open and there is going to be some fierce competition for the job, especially after Michigan football recruited some incoming freshman that could fit it perfectly.

It looks like rising sophomore Anthony Solomon could get the first crack at it. He played a lot on special teams last year and he’s a guy that the coaching staff really likes. He was a four-star addition late in the 2019 class and he could be a star.

William Mohan is a freshman to watch that enrolled early and could compete at the position because he truly is a hybrid safety/linebacker type. Michael Barrett is another guy to watch. He’s a little more athletic than Solomon, so he could be a better fit at viper and maybe Solomon could slot in somewhere else.

At the end of the day, Cam McGrone is going to play just about every down and from there, Solomon, Barrett and Josh Ross will get a bunch of snaps. A young guy could still emerge and at the Viper especially, there is a lot that needs to play out.
