No. 1

Jonathan Kuminga has something in him that others don’t. Everyone is talented in their own right, but not in the same way as the Congolese immigrant which has skyrocketed him to the top of any relevant college recruiting board.

Jonathan is the No.1 prospect for the 2021 class, which is a ranking that’s not given out loosely. Kuminga, a 6-foot-8 wing, as a sophomore, averaged 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists, before transferring out of New York and into the Garden State where he currently plays for The Patrick School – a place well known to be a hotbed of NBA talent.

247 sports Brian Snow provided the evaluation:

"Already at 6-foot-8 with extremely long arms, he is beginning to put his skill game together. Length, athleticism, and versatility are his strengths. Has shown the ability to get into the lane and rebounds well. Is capable of guarding multiple positions, and also blocking shots. Needs to continue to get better with his outside shot, and if that comes he should be nearly impossible to guard. His upside is through the roof, and he is just now beginning to figure out how good he can become. He should hear his name called early in the NBA draft when decides to make that move"

Matt’s musings

Jonathan has an older brother, Joel Ntambwe, who plays for Chris Beard at Texas Tech which could make them the front runners in the race.

There hasn’t been any talk about the brothers being a package deal, though Beard certainly placed himself and his program above the rest by securing Joel. As per Kuminga’s Tweet, however, UM is still in the running for the nation’s top recruit. It’s anyone’s game until it isn’t.
