Michigan Basketball: Reviewing 3 High-priority 2021 Wolverine targets
Zavier Simpson, David DeJulius, Kennedy Chandler
What happens when you combine Zavier Simpson‘s playmaking ability with David DeJulius‘ range? You get Kennedy Chandler.
Kennedy, who has a 9943 composite rating, recently visited Ann Arbor and he recapped it with The Wolverine.
“I’m not going to lie, I was very impressed,” Chandler said. “I had a really nice time. I was really impressed with the way Michigan was. It was a nice visit and I had fun.”
As it turns out, the visit wasn’t the turning point for his recruitment, rather it was time for the coach to get to know the student. The coach, however, was well aware of the student’s interest in the school giving him added confidence for the encounter. About a month before the visit, Chandler announced that Michigan was already one of the final schools he was considering.
UM is competing with the usual list of suspects for Chandler’s services. Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Memphis, and North Carolina are hot on the trail and seem to be the more common foe with the new recruiting direction Juwan is implementing.
Howard is, for the most part, keeping his attention locked on the elite recruits – guys ranked in the top 20, just like the Chandler, who’s 15th overall, the No. 2 PG, and No. 2 out of Tennessee.
Here’s what Jerry Meyer from 247 sports had to say about Kennedy:
"Plays with surprising strength and exceptional explosive athleticism at 6-1. Regularly gets to the rim. Draws fouls at a high rate. Tremendous passer on the move. Adequate three-point shooter but plenty room for improvement. Creative finisher off the dribble. Rebounds position and is a disruptive defender."
Some would say Kennedy is staying in-state in Tennessee, others say he’s a future Coach K disciple. It’s too early to tell, but Michigan is certainly making an impression.
