Michigan Football: Wolverines need to land WR Tyler Morris in 2022
Michigan football is looking to add bigger wide receivers in 2021, but the Wolverines also need playmakers and Tyler Morris, of the 2022 class is one.
Michigan football has a talented group of young wide receivers developing for the future. But in order to keep the pipeline flush with talent, the Wolverines need to land someone like Tyler Morris in 2022.
If the past is any indication though, Michigan football could have a good shot with Morris. For starters, Morris a teammate of Michigan commit J.J. McCarthy, so the two have a quarterback-receiver connection. Morris is also the top player in the state of Illinois for 2022 and in 2020 and 2021, those players went to Michigan.
A.J. Henning was the top recruit in Illinois in 2020 and the wideout ended up with the Wolverines. McCarthy, who is No. 1 in the upcoming class, also committed to Michigan football last summer and has shown no signs of wavering. In fact, he recruits hard for U-M, which should help the Wolverines with Morris, who visited Ann Arbor recently.
Last week, Morris was at a national 7-on-7 tournament, just like McCarthy and he spoke with The Michigan Insider ($) about his recruitment. Here are the highlights:
“Definitely schools I’ve built relationships with Michigan and Notre Dame,” Morris said. “If I had to say no to any of them it’d be pretty hard because of what’s going on. Overall the opportunity it gives me for everything as far as the academics, athletics and getting to the next level, and how it makes you feel like a family is really big for me.”
If you are talking about football and academics, there are few schools better than Michigan, although Notre Dame is right there and the Irish have also built a strong relationship with Morris as he indicated.
Right now, both of Morris’ crystal ball projections are with the Irish, who may have an early lead for the 37th overall prospect in 2022 and the fifth-best wide receiver.
The obvious hope for Michigan football is that having a commitment throwing Morris the ball and alongside him, in the huddle, this season will help. The addition of Josh Gattis and bringing a new-age offense to Michigan should help too.
Penn State is another team that’s in the mix and Iowa also sounds like it will get a visit. Overall, Michigan stands a good chance at landing Morris, who could be a cornerstone for the Wolverines in their 2022 class.
