Michigan Basketball: 3 things we learned in Wolverines win at Purdue
Wagner has become a dominant force
One of the best developments for Michigan basketball lately has been the surge of Franz Wagner, which continued against Purdue as he scored a career-high 22 points. He also connected on three 3-pointers and grabbed five rebounds.
It took Wagner some time to find his groove and an early-season injury didn’t help, but he is now averaging just under 11 points per game and in his last five outings, he is averaging more than 16 per game, shooting 57 percent from the field, grabbing seven rebounds and making 40 percent of his 3-pointers.
Those are the kind of numbers that win you Big Ten Player of the Year if you can do it over the course of an entire season. In the last three games, he has scored 50 points and has connected on six 3-pointers.
It wouldn’t be shocking at all if Wagner won yet another Big Ten Freshman of the Week award and in all honesty, he deserves it. With Livers back on the floor, he and Franz are just about impossible for defenses to deal with.
Both guys look like future NBA players and putting them around Simpson and Teske, as well as Brooks, DeJulius and Brandon Johns makes this Michigan team a dangerous one.
