Michigan is in a great position for the Big Dance

It wasn’t that long ago that Michigan basketball was nearly on the outside looking in at the NCAA tournament, at least as far as the projections were concerned.

But since then, the Wolverines have won six of seven games and now, they essentially seem like a lock to make it. Michigan basketball has won seven games against teams projected in the tournament and three of those wins came on the road or on a neutral floor.

Michigan still has challenging road games at Purdue, Ohio State and Maryland, as well as contests at home against Wisconsin and Nebraska. But truthfully, Michigan only needs one or two of those games and anything but a clean sweep of losses probably sends them to the dance floor.

But, the Wolverines have bigger fish to try. They have an outside chance as getting the double-bye in the Big Ten tournament, which comes with a top-four finish.

Michigan can’t win the regular-season title, but it still has a chance to raise a Big Ten banner to come March and the more wins it gets down the stretch, the better chance it will have come tournament time.
