DDJ keeps playing an essential role

David DeJulius is one guy that seems to get overlooked a little when people talk about Michigan basketball and it’s great bench. Austin Davis has been getting lots of love. Brandon Johns has too and it’s certainly well deserved.

But Wednesday night against Rutgers, the Wolverines wouldn’t have won without the efforts of the sophomore point guard. He only scored 10 points and was 3-of-6 from the field, but he helped run the show when Simpson had foul trouble and he hit big shots, including a 3-pointer in the second half.

More impressively, he was outstanding on the defensive end last night and was part of Michigan’s effort to hold Rutgers to about 21 percent shooting in the first 18 minutes of the second half.

That as much as anything is why the Wolverines won the game. For the season, DeJulius is scoring more than seven points a night but recently, you can see the growth and it seems more likely than ever that he could someday be the Wolverines starting point guard.
