Michigan Basketball: 3 things we learned in road win at Rutgers
Simpson has reached a new level
It’s hard to believe because Zavier Simpson has been so good for so long, but he really has taken his game to another level in recent weeks and especially since he was forced to serve that one-game suspension.
There was the game at Madison Square Garden or the Michigan State game at home, as well as the game last Sunday against Indiana that included 12 points and 11 assists compared to just one turnover.
Simpson may not be an NBA superstar but he’s one of the best point guards in college basketball and that gives the Wolverines a chance to do something special over the next month or so. In his last five games, Simpson has scored 15 points or more three times and at least 12 in four of five games.
For the season, he is averaging 12.7 ppg for is shooting 47 percent from the field. The senior is also dishing out eight assists per game, which is a career high. He’s shooting better, he’s playing great defense and all of a sudden, he has his team within a game of third in the Big Ten.
