Michigan Basketball: 3 things we learned in Wolverines win over Indiana
Michigan basketball is the Big Ten’s hottest team
Michigan basketball has won five of six games and after being projected as an eight seed by ESPN’s Joe Lunardi on Friday, U-M should be in even better shape after knocking off Indiana, a team that was in the field of among the last four teams.
That gave Michigan seven wins over teams in Lunardi’s latest bracket and with six games left to go in league play, the Wolverines are getting closer to locking up an NCAA tournament bid.
Yet, the aspirations of this team should be much higher, especially with how well they have played recently. According to data from Bart Torvick, via UMHoops, Michigan has been the best team in the country during the month of February and for the entire season, U-M is 13th. That’s similar to Kenpom, which has the Wolverines ranked 14th.
The defense has been outstanding and has hit its stride. Simpson is playing lights out, Livers has been great, Wagner is finding consistency and others like Eli Brooks, Johns and Davis are rounding into form at the perfect time.
There is a confidence with this team and over the last few games, Michigan basketball is looking more and more like the group that beat Gonzaga and made it to No. 4.
What does that mean for the stretch run? It’s hard to say, but if the Wolverines keep rolling, a postseason run of some kind isn’t at all out of the question.
