Austin Davis is a force and probably needs more minutes

The transformation of Austin Davis from an afterthought to an absolute force off the bench for Michigan basketball has been incredible to watch.

And Sunday against the Hoosiers, Davis was at his best again and scored nine points, while grabbing five rebounds in just 13 minutes of action. He was also 4-of-6 from the field, which is just about par for the course, as Davis is shooting 71.9 percent from the field. He’s also averaging 5.9 points a game in 10 minutes or so.

In four of his last five games, Davis has scored eight points or more and he hasn’t played more than 13 minutes in any of those outings.

Obviously, he has a shoulder issue and maybe if he played much more, he wouldn’t be as productive. But lately, he has been unguardable in the post, while Jon Teske has struggled, despite rebounding some Sunday.

That’s not to say Davis can replace Teske. The 7-footer does a lot more than score for the Wolverines but there’s no doubt in his role, for what he does, Davis is among the most effective members of the team, which might mean playing him a little more.
