Michigan basketball has done a great job recruiting five-star recruit Greg Brown and the genius of Juwan Howard is giving the Wolverines a chance.

At the same time that Michigan basketball is putting together a resurgence with the return of Isaiah Livers from injury, the Wolverines are also making their move with five-star recruit Greg Brown, a member of the 2020 class.

Brown is one of the final guys that Michigan basketball is after, following commitments from Isaiah Todd, Hunter Dickinson, Terrance Williams, Zeb Jackson and Jace Howard.

With those four guys in the fold, assuming Todd doesn’t go overseas, Michigan currently has the No. 4 class in 2020 nationally according to 247 sports and the Wolverines have a legit shot at landing two other top-10 players.

One is Joshua Christopher, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard that the Wolverines have been trending with as they now hold eight of his nine crystal ball projections. Christopher is the No. 10 player in the 2020 class and he would be the highest-ranked member if he did end up committing, as long U-M didn’t also get Brown, which is harder to tell.

While Michigan has been steadily gaining momentum with Christopher and is now considered the odds-on favorite, with Brown, there is a long way to go.

However, his visit to Ann Arbor last weekend for the Michigan State game seemed like a positive, especially if you see some of the things his dad, Greg Brown Sr.  told the Michigan Insider($):

Sam Webb, one of the top recruiting experts when it comes to Michigan, caught up with Brown Sr., who was impressed with the leadership at U-M among other things. Here’s an excerpt:

"We met with him (Sunday) before we left, and we met with two brothers that are with the academic staff (Brian Townsend and Maurice Washington). The reason why I liked them so much is because they’re in charge of the athletic career center. What impressed me so much about those guys was the questions that they asked Greg. They’re like, ‘we know you play basketball, but basketball shouldn’t define you as a person. Who are you as a person outside of basketball?’"

Certainly, that doesn’t mean that Brown is going to come to Michigan, but the fact that the Wolverines seem to be winning over his father can’t hurt.

And with Texas and Kentucky viewed as some of the toughest competition, you have to wonder, as a father, would you rather want your son to play for Juwan Howard or John Calipari? Or Shaka Smart, who could be out as Texas?

It seems like Michigan basketball might have a shot at winning that battle. The only problem is that if the Wolverines do, some roster changes will need to be made in order for all of them to fit.

Hopefully, that’s something Howard has to tackle because have way too much talent, is a very good problem to have.
