Michigan Football: Five 2020 signees that could make an early impact
Jordan Morant
Through the magic of the Campanile family, Jordan Morant found himself signing with the Wolverines and has stuck to his commitment despite losing Anthony Campanile to the Miami Dolphins… we think (he’s still not listed on the staff page of their website).
Nevertheless, Jordan is a tremendous athlete and was once ranked as the best safety in the nation.

247 sports Brian Dohn wrote the following evaluation of Morant:
"Strong build with safety size. Mentality and skill set to be an in-the-box safety. Has ability to play nickel and cover in slot. Very good in run support. Good strength and strong tackler. Devastating hitter when moving downhill. Excellent body control. Possesses closing speed. Drives well on ball thrown in front. Physical and aggressive. Comfortable in press coverage. Sets edge well. Speed is concern after running 4.74 in 40 in April. Has to improve backpedal and footwork technique in coverage. Continued development in coverage necessary. Multi-year starter at high-level program. Should hear his name called in the second or third round of the NFL draft."
Per 247 sports, Jordan is ranked 5th in-state, the 10th S, and 165th nationally with four-stars and a 9294 composite score. Rivals has Morant a few notches lower at 7th in-state and 23rd at his position.
Matt’s musings
What Morant lacks in speed he makes up for in intelligence and playmaking. He hits like no other and he maintains containment with incredible closing speed, and while his forty time is listed in the evaluation by 247 sports at 4.74, he eventually improved that to 4.69.
2020 impact prediction
Jordan will move up the depth chart quickly and find his playing time mostly in two safety sets. Expect a few interceptions and some key tackles that vault him into the starting lineup in 2021.
