Michigan Basketball: 4 factors that shaped the season so far

Crisler Catastrophes
Over the past several years Michigan basketball has had Crisler on lockdown. During Beilein’s last two years in Ann Arbor, they were just about unbeatable at 32-2. They’ve already lost three in Howard’s initial tenure.
All three of the defeats have come to top-25 teams which softens the blow and two of the three have come by a combined three points.
Michigan was a tip-in away from disposing of Oregon and a last-second bucket from probable overtime with the Big Ten leading Illini. We’ll never know what could have been if Ayo Dosunmu didn’t bury that jumper right in Zavier Simpson‘s face.
In the Penn State contest, they really didn’t give up much of a fight. Michigan hasn’t lost a home game to the Nittany Lions in 10 years.
Playing on a neutral court has been the best possibility for the Wolverines thus far this season. That might even come into effect this Saturday when they meet up with Rutgers in New York City. If Michigan can get back into position before March, then climbing up the ladder in the Big Ten tourney in Indianapolis may not be that far-fetched.
