Brooks steps up BIG

A lot of guys stepped up last night for Michigan basketball, yet it’s hard to argue that anyone played a bigger role in the road win than Eli Brooks, who started at point guard for Simpson.

Brooks finished the game shooting 6-of-12 from the field. He finished with a game-high 20 points and also grabbed nine rebounds while dishing out four assists and grabbing two steals.

In short, Brooks was everywhere. The start was slow for the Wolverines and they finished the game with 17 turnovers, however, they were able to execute when it mattered most thanks to Brooks.

I’ll admit, I wanted to see David DeJulius in that role more as the primary ball-handler. But he struggled and it’s clear Howard made the right choice in Brooks, who made a good case for himself to be the starting point guard next season after Simpson leaves.

Ok, sorry, that’s getting way too far ahead of ourselves. But it’s not going too far to say that Michigan still has hope for the NCAA tournament this season, because of the way Brooks was able to step up in that moment and perform.
