Michigan Football: Elite in-state O-lineman set to visit Wolverines
After adding just a few offensive lineman in 2020, Michigan football is looking to add more talent and will host a pair of elite in-state tackles.
Whether it’s in the 2021 recruiting class or even this year’s group, Michigan football is looking to add some offensive lineman.
Of course, the Wolverines did add a few in the 2020 class when most of it signed back in December. However, one that didn’t, Micah Mazzccua, recently flipped to Baylor, leaving the Wolverines with one less guy.
The team was already sniffing around some offensive lineman in the transfer portal, so maybe they had an idea something was up or just wanted more experience with four starters departing from last season.
Next season is a priority, but in terms of the future, Michigan football will be hosting two key in-state recruits this weekend on visits to Ann Arbor, who just happen to be offensive lineman.
The first unofficial visit confirmed by The Michigan Insider, is from four-star tackle Rayshaun Benny, who is from Oak Park, Michigan and ranks as the No. 23 tackle in 2021. He’s also a top-200 prospect and ranked sixth in the state.
Benny is 6-foo-5 and already has more than 30 scholarships offers to his name. He’s exactly what you would want in an o-lineman for Michigan football, so hopefully, things go well and the Wolverines can establish themselves as the favorite for the in-state kid.
Along those same lines, Michigan will be hosting another four-star lineman from in the state, as Garrett Dellinger of Clarkston, a 6-foot-6 guard/tackle that ranks 14 at tackle according to the 247 sports composite rankings and is listed as the fourth-best player in Michigan. He also told The Michigan Insider ($) he will be visiting Ann Arbor this weekend.
A big advantage for the Wolverines is coach Ed Warriner, who has been recruiting Benny and it’s not just because Warriner has turned into a solid recruiter, but more so, because he is a really good coach and players see that.
He did a great job of developing guys like Cesar Ruiz, Jon Runyan Jr., Michael Onwenu and Ben Bredeson, who could each be playing on Sundays next season. That’s something Michigan can sell to them.
The Wolverines could also be offering a chance to play as well. The offensive line is young and without a deep 2020 class, it possible that one could crack the two-deep fairly early in the 2021 season, simply out of necessity.
