Michigan is in trouble and getting above .500 Big Ten is an uphill battle

Juwan Howard ripped into his team about their defense Wednesday night and he was particularly upset about a lack of communication. Whatever the issue, the defense was poor and the offense wasn’t much better.

The shocking fall of the defense has been an issue throughout the restart of Big Ten play and while the loss of Livers is surely having some impact, it’s not the only reason this team is struggling.

The season is far from over. Michigan has a ton of quality wins and is still ranked highly in Kenpom and the NET rankings. But at 2-5 in the Big Ten, momentum is against them and they are seriously in bubble territory, at least in the sense that the Wolverines have a lot of work to do to make the field of 68.

Over the next five games, Michigan will host Illinois, Rutgers, Ohio State and Michigan State, in between a road trip to Nebraska. That’s not an easy stretch of games and the Wolverines, at a minimum, must win four of those five games, otherwise, a 10-10 finish will be very difficult.

Hopefully, Livers gets back to practice and playing soon but with him or not, Michigan has to start winning games or the unthinkable could happen.
