Michigan Football was expected to sign commit Micah Mazzccua, yet it didn’t happen in December and now, it doesn’t look like it will at all.

When the early signing period came and went, there were a couple of Michigan football commits that didn’t end up signing with the Wolverines.

One of those players was three-star offensive lineman, Micah Mazzccua, a 6-foot-5, 330-pounder out of St. Frances Academy in Maryland, a high school that has sent a number of players to Michigan football in recent years.

Mazzccua was expected to be one of those and even after he didn’t sign, there wasn’t anything suggesting that he wasn’t going to. At least until now.

Brian Dohn, a recruiting insider for 247 sports, is reporting ($) that Mazzccua is going to take a visit to Baylor and that he expects the offensive lineman to wind up with the Bears, not the Wolverines.

If Mazzccua does indeed with up with Baylor or another school, it’s a loss. You don’t want to lose from your recruiting class, but looking at it in-depth, it’s not going to be a tremendous loss in the grand scheme of things.

Mazzccua is ranked 616th according to the 247 sports composite rankings and he is listed as the  No. 39 guard. He is also the No. 21 player in the state of Maryland, however, according to just the 247 specific rankings, he doesn’t crack the top 1,000.

It could also be a better indication of why Michigan football has been trying to pursue three-star tackle James Pogorelc, who has all of his crystal balls projecting him to Stanford.

As of right now and outside of some potential transfers or junior college transfers, Pogorelc appears to be among the final targets for the Wolverines in the 2020 cycle as the signing period approaches.

As far as the 2020 class goes, you wonder if this isn’t the last player that’s committed that ends up signing elsewhere. The recruit I’m talking about is three-star tight end Nick Patterson, the younger brother of quarterback Shea Patterson.

Patterson is ranked 859th in the 2020 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings but he didn’t sign in the early period and there have been rumblings that he might not be a take. It’s also unclear if he has grown unhappy.

That’s all speculation. He could very well sigh with U-M, it’s just curious that he hasn’t and like with Mazzaccua, there is usually a reason why.
