September 19th

The little school known as Arkansas State in Jonesboro is no stranger to extremely talented coaches. Ray Perkins, Hugh Freeze, Gus Malzhan, Bryan Harsin, and now Blake Anderson have all spent at least one season as the head man for the school that hasn’t missed a bowl game since 2010.

Coach Anderson managed eight wins in 2019 with a freshman quarterback, a sophomore running back, and a team full of kids that were, for the most part, snubbed by Power Five programs.

Speaking of the freshman quarterback, Layne Hatcher had a heck of a year for the Red Wolvers, throwing for 2,946 yards, 27 touchdowns.

Layne will be coming back, but fifth-year receiver Omar Bayless is moving on. Omar accounted for 1,653 receiving yards during his final year of eligibility for Arkansas State.

On the other side of the ball, senior defensive end William Bradley-King returns after earning the title as team sack master in 2019. The 6-foot-4 beast will be sure to attack the young Wolverine linemen.

Matt’s musings

Washington is missing quite a few pieces, but the difference in that game will be the home-field advantage. Even though Michigan football has a nation-wide reach in terms of fans, the Huskies will surely fill Husky stadium to max capacity.

Next. Michigan football all-decade team from 2010s. dark

I predict the Wolverines will come out on top in a close game and then dominate the Cardinals and Red Wolves before heading into the conference schedule.
