The transfer portal

Juwan Howard is becoming well versed in the transfer portal.

Ann Arbor native Brandon Wade spent a season with Duquesne before entering the portal and eventually finding his way back to the city he loves and the school he always wanted to attend. He was a scholarship player at his former school but will walk-on to develop under the former NBA all-star and two time NBA champion.

Incoming transfers, however, are not what we’re discussing here. For Michigan basketball to add another generational talent, at least one of the current members of the roster must depart.

When you break down the depth chart, there are several players that will likely lose significant playing time as the incoming talent earns their court time. At point guard, DeJulius is the obvious choice with Zeb Jackson coming in as a solid backup. Zeb can also play shooting guard and, if they find can persuade him, Joshua Christopher would be the starter. At small forward, Livers, Wagner, and Bajama are the favorites and at power forward, Todd, Williams, and Johns Jr., fill the need with the one-and-done Todd starting. Finally, at center, Hunter Dickinson will get the nod backed up by Austin Davis.

That doesn’t leave much playing time for guys like Colin Castleton – who has struggled at the five and has recently played more PF – or Eli Brooks – who has shot 1-14 from three in the last three contests.
