#6: 04/08/2013 – Spike Albrecht’s 17-Point Performance in the National Championship

Man, what could have been.

This is the only moment from this list that ended in a loss, however, it would be criminal if this was left off the list.

The 2013 Michigan Wolverines had a run to the National Championship like none other.

The Wolverines defeated South Dakota State, VCU, Kansas in overtime in the sweet 16, and Nik Stauskas’ hot shooting routed Florida to get to their first final four appearance since the era of the ‘Fab Five’.

In their Final Four matchup against Syracuse, the Wolverines were able to shut down Michael Carter-Williams and the rest of the ‘Orange’ to earn themselves a date against Louisville for the National Championship.

With National Player of the Year Trey Burke finding himself in foul trouble in the 2013 National Championship, freshman PG Spike Albrecht stole the hearts of the millions of fans watching with his electric first half.

Albrecht scored an incredible 17 points in the first 20 minutes of the Michigan/Louisville National Championship, taking advantage of Burke’s absence on the floor, and becoming a star on the biggest stage.

While the Wolverines did not come away with the victory (Burke’s block was clean), Albrecht’s performance will be something that many will remember for quite some time.
