Michigan Basketball: Early look at the starting five for 2020-21
Power forward
Starter: Isaiah Todd
Backups: Brandon Johns Jr, Terrence Williams
*This is assuming Isaiah Livers leaves early for the NBA
Isaiah Todd is the highest-ranked prospect to commit to Michigan basketball since the rankings began, but he didn’t sign, and there are rumors that he might be headed overseas for a year to earn a little cash and prepare him for the NBA.
Michigan nation doesn’t want this to happen, and it’s not a done deal; however, no one, including me, is convinced he’s actually headed to Ann Arbor, and I’ll believe it after he signs his National Letter of Intent.
Should Todd forgo college athletics for a more lucrative opportunity, Brandon Johns Jr. will fit in just fine as the starting PF. Brandon’s most masterful performance to date came against Oregon, where he was a dominant presence on the boards, and he gave the Wolverines a chance to win late against a formidable opponent.
Terrence Williams is the third option, and although he hasn’t committed, he is trending towards UM. Williams relies on his strength to overpower opponents, and while he’s a bit undersized for his position, he broke into the top 100 nationally.
This is all for naught if Livers decides to stay on for one more year of development. His 50% three-point shooting will become very attractive to NBA suiters when the NBA draft comes around, and all of that cash might be too much to turndown.
