Michigan Basketball: Early look at the starting five for 2020-21
Shooting guard
Starter: Joshua Christopher
Backups: Brooks, Jackson
The Wolverines are hot on the trail of the nation’s 11th ranked basketball player in the 2020 class, Joshua Christopher. As the second-ranked shooting guard, Christopher has the prototypical size for the position, standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 215-pounds. The problem with Josh and his 9968 composite rating, is that he’s expected to stay in his home state of California and commit to UCLA.
The good news for Michigan basketball is that a recent visit to Ann Arbor might have swayed the young man enough for him to leave home for at least a year.
“I thought how (Howard) prepared his staff (is impressive),” Josh Christopher’s dad, Laron said. “Coach Eisley, and the coach from St. Joe’s…Coach Martelli… oh my goodness. To understand the knowledge of a man like that in an arena… I called him the godfather because of the wealth of information and insight. The amount of intel, knowledge, history that he has of the game I think is epic.”
But if Christopher doesn’t decide to join Howard’s top ten class, the starter will likely be Eli or Zeb. Howard’s positionless basketball has worked no matter how short the backcourt is, and the 6-foot-6 Adrien Nunez provides height for the position should he develop even more this offseason.
