Point Guard

Starter: David DeJulius

Backups: Zeb Jackson, Eli Brooks

David DeJulius has been groomed to take over the starting point guard spot since he committed, and he perfectly fits the mold of the quick, dribble drive and distribute type that the Wolverines were dedicated to when Beilein was around.

When DDJ was asked to take a more prominent role in the offense, he didn’t hesitate, and his offseason dedication to the game has shown every time he gets on the court. As the sixth man, DDJ is averaging 22.4 minutes, 8.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and he’s shooting 43% from beyond the arc.

Eli Brooks and incoming freshman Zeb Jackson will be competing for the backup position at both PG and SG. With the absence of a prototypical shooting guard, Coach Howard has shown a propensity to employ a smaller lineup, including, at times, Zavier Simpson and Brooks on the floor together, but that may change next season relegating Brooks back to PG.

With Eli, you’ll get 24 points or two depending on what Brooks shows up that night, and with Zeb, you have an unpolished gem that may need a year of physical development before taking a starring role.

Regardless, there’s solid depth at the position, and with three guys all vying for a more significant role, at least one of them will be on their game any given night.
